Letters from the Lunar Outpost

Act well at the moment, and you have performed a good action for all eternity.

For those on the list, sorry for the multiple email notifications on this, just had a few technical issues to work out.

So for my seventh album, the days of performing all the tracks myself are over, mainly because of the vocals. There are a few songs I think my voice fits perfectly, but there are other songs like this one, which is in desperate need of someone who can belt it out with a heavy duty rock ‘n roll voice.

So I’m looking for a singer. If you’re a singer, you’ll know what I’m saying when I’m also looking for the vocal line to be brought up an octave to where you can really belt it out.

If you’re just listening for fun, just try to picture whatever metal singer first comes to mind.

I’ll be reproducing the whole recording (guitars are a bit swampy and too heavy on the effects, the bass is a bit too clackity-clack) but I hope you can dig it for the riffs and the message of a man who is convinced there’s a Creator but who finds nothing but the devil in the details.

Soul Fishing

Borne here to this world with no view behind
Aware and conscious through this unknown mind
I view His Landscapes and they fill my eyes
But to his nature I am truly blind

And the preachers gone fishing
Finding souls lost swimming
Promise Fate to the river
But She doesn’t deliver

I’m just a blind dog, baby
Howlin’ with my heart and soul
Forever thankful for this
And what this is I do not know
Some dogs have all the answers
In the light they’re truly blind
But The One Who Put This World Here
Lies beyond the realm of mind

Religious zealots have no fucking clue
They speak for God when they preach to you
All man’s religions speak the minds that dream him
I love my Master though I’ve never seen him

And the preachers gone fishing
Finding souls lost swimming
Promise Fate to the river
But She doesn’t deliver

I’m just a blind dog, baby
Howlin’ with my heart and soul
Forever thankful for this
And what this is I do not know
Some dogs have all the answers
In the light they’re truly blind
But The One Who Put This World Here
Lies beyond the realm of mind

When it comes to singing, on just about every song I record, I always seem to be surprised at how my vocals come out – either surprised that it ended up sounding as good as it did, or surprised that I could possibly butcher any song so badly.

For instance, I feel like I nailed it pretty good on the vocals for Black Widow Stepmom and Miss Vu, but then on my original version of this song, that’s some hall of shame material right there!

So I finally ended up having to bring in an all-star guest singer for this one. None other than Richard La Bianco of Wildon Ash fame. (So that’s what this song would sound like with a professional singer on it!)

Without further adieu, cue up that country hip hop . . .

Turn out the lights the party’s over
They say that all good things must end
Call it a night the party’s over
And tomorrow starts the same old thing again

What a crazy, crazy party never seen so many people
Laughin’ dancin’ look at you, you’re havin’ fun
But look at me I’m almost cryin’ but that don’t keep her love from dyin’
Misery ’cause for me the party’s over

Turn out the lights the party’s over
They say that all good things must end
Call it a night the party’s over
And tomorrow starts the same old thing again

Once I had a love undyin’ I didn’t keep it, wasn’t tryin’
Life for me was just one party and then another
I broke her heart so many times had to have my party wine
Then one day, she said sweetheart the party’s over

Turn out the lights the party’s over
They say that all good things must end
Call it a night the party’s over
And tomorrow starts the same old thing again
And tomorrow starts the same old thing again

I had a friend request some tab for the bass line, so here’s the transcription:

I’ve been down here for too damn long
I walk the face of a tired planet
Through dirty towns holding desperate lives
Each sad existence knows of nothing else
We need to head somewhere above it all
We’ll leave behind all the troubles of the day
Can you hear the Spirit call you?
Freeing slaves of their monetary prisons

Your soul of heaven is floating free
Your body of Earth is led to misery
Release yourself of those material chains
And let’s ascend to the higher plains

Look around with a global perspective
Get in tune with celestial directive
I think your family’s bigger than you know
If you know you’ll let your purpose grow
We need to find something much deeper than this
Something stronger than a one-night stand, yeah
People say that you must stay down here
But it’s mortal fear

Your soul of heaven is floating free
Your body of Earth is led to misery
Release yourself of those material chains
And let’s ascend to the higher plains

Your soul of heaven is floating free
Your body of Earth is led to misery
Release yourself of those material chains
And let’s ascend to the higher plains
And let’s ascend to the higher plains
And let’s ascend to the higher plains
And let’s ascend to the higher plains
