You look so small standing by Big Bird, Mr. President.
“If you don’t have a record to run on, then you paint your opponent as someone people should run away from. You make a big election about small things.” – Barack Obama, August 28, 2008
It’s almost as if he could see four years into the future, because when Barack Obama spoke of making a big election about small things, he couldn’t have described his own reelection campaign of 2012 any more perfectly.
After a debate where he got his ass kicked by the biggest margin in Gallup polling history, a 72% to 20% shellacking, what debate moment has Obama tried to capitalize on?
Romney’s vow to eliminate programs that don’t pass this test: “Is the program so critical it’s worth borrowing money from China to pay for it. And if not, I’ll get rid of it.” Addressing moderator Jim Lehrer, Romney continued, saying, “I’m sorry Jim, I’m going to stop the subsidy to PBS. I like PBS, I actually love Big Bird. I like you too, but I’m not going to keep on spending money on things to borrow money from China to pay for.”
In the week following the debate, Barack Obama has now mentioned Big Bird eight times, Elmo five times, while not once addressing the terrorist attack in Lybia, Al-Qaeda’s increasing influence in the region or any specific plans to fix the economy.

With the Obama campaign now hitting the airwaves with their new Big Bird ad, you would think this is something out of The Onion, total satire, a parody of how ridiculously desperate the Obama campaign has become, but it’s not a parody, this is a real ad that’s hitting the airwaves!
How tone deaf does the Obama campaign have to be airing an ad like this when only 38% of Americans think we’re headed in the right direction under this president?
Obama spokeswoman Jen Psaki defended the ad, saying the campaign was tapping into a “grassroots outcry” when it put together the ad. A GRASSROOTS OUTCRY? How much grass are they smoking out at the Obama HQ?
It’s an embarrassment is what it is. Even fellow Democrats are frustrated by Obama’s focus on Big Birds and small things.
The most ironic part is, for the candidate who sought to get reelected by engaging in class warfare, dividing the nation and making it all about getting a majority to envy and hate those who have become rich and successful in America, Obama finds himself now defending an undisputed member of the one percent, arguing for taxpayers to help fund a Sesame Street whose net worth is $356-million. Yeah, I’m pretty sure they’ll do just fine without taxpayer subsidy.
And just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse for Obama, turns out Big Bird doesn’t even want his help! Sesame Street is asking the Obama campaign to take the ad down!!!
Mr. President, respect the wishes of Big Bird – take down that ad!

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head by a gunman at a public event in Tucson on Saturday. There are conflicting reports about whether she was killed.
The Pima County, Ariz., sheriff’s office told member station KJZZ the 40-year-old Democrat was killed. At least nine other people, including members of her staff, were injured.
Giffords, who was re-elected to a third term in November, was hosting a “Congress on Your Corner” event at a Safeway in northwest Tucson when a gunman ran up and started shooting, according to Peter Michaels, news director of Arizona Public Media.
Giffords was talking to a couple when the suspect ran up and fired indiscriminately from about four feet away, Michaels said.
The suspect ran off and was tackled by a bystander. He was taken into custody. Witnesses described him as in his late teens or early 20s.

A tragedy for the entire nation to see someone who has devoted her life to representing this country shot so senselessly like this. Let’s hope and pray for a miracle, give prayers and deepest sympathy for her family and may the perpetrator face justice in both this life and the next.
And if you read the comments at NPR – disgusting. There is no other word for it. The very first thought on most those people’s minds, not the abject tragedy of the situation, but instead these people’s first thought is, FINALLY WE HAVE CONCRETE EVIDENCE OF TEA PARTY TERRORISM! For them, this may be their long awaited moment of the Burning of the Reichstag.
Millions, literally millions attendend Tea Party rallies across the nation without a single arrest so those who wish to stamp out all opposition to the current administration had to grasp at straws, resorting to a single clip of a tea partier who may or may not have also intentionally spit on a congressman.
Mayor Bloomberg and MSNBC looked like idiots for floating their hopeful theory as if it were fact that the failed Times Square Bomber was a tea partier, when he subsequently turned out to be Faisal Shahzad, so I can only imagine with what gleeful delight MSNBC will report it if they can finally pin this act of terrorism on someone who they can identify as a conservative.
If I had to guess though, I would imagine that a woman such as Congresswoman Giffords, who was elected three times by a democratic process that relied on her ability to communicate ideas in an open society and debate those ideas with her opponents, I would guess that the last thing she would want is for her shooting, at the hands of some unhinged lunatic to serve as some sort of rallying cry by the likes of MSNBC and the other propagandists of the media who wish to paint all voices of opposition as EXTREMISTS and TERRORISTS.
Shame on anyone and everyone who uses this shooting as some excuse to claim that dissent is DANGEROUS and should be treated as a THREAT. May Representative Giffords stand as a testament to what one person achieve by something as pure and honest as the open debate of ideas in a Democratic society.
Sometimes, the perfect solution comes in the form of a viral email by unknown author.

Here’s a solution to all the controversy over full-body scanners at the airports: All we need to do is develop a booth that you can step into that will NOT X-ray you, but WILL detonate any explosive device you may have hidden on or in your body. The explosion will be contained within the sealed booth. This would be a win-win for everyone. There would be no government employees looking at naked images of your spouses and your children, no need for racial profiling and the device would eliminate long and expensive trials for the would-be terrorists.
I can see it now: you’re in the airport terminal and you hear a muffled explosion. Shortly thereafter an announcement comes over the PA system, "Attention standby passengers, we now have a seat available on flight number 42."
Sure the idea is worth a good laugh, but if there was actually a feasible technology that could set off any form of explosive while still remaining safe for all the innocent passengers passing through, I would support that solution whole-heartedly!
And each time the machine does its job, is there anything that can match the feel good story of a jihad bomber who blows up no one other than his own stupid ass?
Hey Julian, it’s only a matter of time before the assassin’s bullet finds you. I’m sure you know this. I’m sure you also try to take solace in the fact that when you get that bullet you so richly deserve, some will even view you as a martyr.
It must be thrilling to strip the world’s only superpower of it’s clothes and share the unguarded assessments of our diplomats and those of our allies, you must feel like quite a powerful man to put a death warrant on some of our best intelligence assets and blow the cover of so many American agents and agents of our allies, but when that assassin’s bullet finally does take you out, have you ever thought of exactly who will be celebrating the life you lived and all your “heroic” deeds?
Does it make you feel proud to imagine that a Communist China which brutally stamps out all opposition to their authoritarian rule is celebrating your espionage?
Does it make you feel vindicated when you think of how you’re being applauded by repressive regimes like the nutjob mullahs in Iran, whenever they can take a break from stoning women, hanging homosexuals and torturing political dissidents?
Does it warm your heart to think of all the terrorists who blow up cars in crowded markets and set bombs off in crowded night clubs who will say that you were quite the useful idiot for their cause in trying to tear down the “Great Satan” and install a global caliphate?
What a wonderful collection of tyrants and murderers you’ll have to mourn your death, Julian Assange.
Some people should die, that’s just unconscious knowledge.
