Let us, if we must have great actions, make our own so. All action is of infinite elasticity, and the least admits of being inflated with celestial air, until it eclipses the sun and moon.
- Emerson, American Poet and Essayist (1803-1882)
Eight days ago, Charles Krauthammer wrote this in a column:
Obama started his presidency by returning to the British Embassy the bust of Winston Churchill that had graced the Oval Office.
Within hours, White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer posted this belligerent reply at the White House Website:
normally, we wouldn’t address a rumor that’s so patently false, but just this morning the Washington Post’s Charles Krauthammer repeated this ridiculous claim in his column .?.?. This is 100% false. The bust [is] still in the White House. In the Residence. Outside the Treaty Room.
Just a few hours later, the British Embassy set the record straight:
“the bust now resides in the British ambassador’s residence in Washington D.C.”
It only took a couple hours for Dan Pfeiffer to leap to accusing Krauthammer of writing something “patently false,” calling it a “ridiculous claim,” and it was only a couple hours later that the British Embassy set the record straight, so how long would it take for Pfeiffer and the Obama White House to man up and admit that the attack on Krauthammer was unwarranted?
Well, three days later, all was silent from the White House even after the Telegraph UK ran the story, “The White House blunders again over the Churchill bust“
As Telegraph readers will recall, one of the earliest actions of the Obama presidency when it came to office in 2009 was to return a bust of Sir Winston Churchill to the British Embassy, an extraordinary move considering the huge admiration for the wartime leader on both sides of the Atlantic. . . when British officials offered to let Mr Obama to hang onto the bust for a further four years, the White House said: “Thanks, but no thanks.” The decision to return the bust naturally sparked outrage at home and abroad, and has caused considerable embarrassment over the years for the Obama administration. This week the White House has stumbled again over the Churchill bust issue . . .
I certainly remember the story of the Obama White House snubbing the Brits and sending the bust of Churchill back, I don’t know how Pfeiffer could be working in that very same White House and somehow have been completely oblivious to that story, but even with the Telegraph there to jog any fuzzy memories, still there was no apology from the White House.
Day five of Bustgate and even after the Telegraph ran this story: “Churchill bust debacle: ‘amateurish’ Obama White House remains firmly in denial over snub to Britain” still the White House remained mum.
Finally today, eight days after insulting Krauthammer and denying the original insult to the Brits, Pfeiffer found some stones in his sack and stepped up to admit he was flat-out wrong in his angry White House blog post attacking Krauthammer.
As incredible as it was to see the White House follow insult after insult after insult here, I was most fascinated by the comments that were being made by the troop of Obama supporters.
You ever see monkeys at a zoo when one monkey starts shrieking and that one monkey gets a couple other monkeys to join in and then the next thing you know, the entire cage full of monkeys is jumping up and shrieking like one mindless, spasmodic organism? That’s what it was like watching the comments on Krauthammer’s article once the White House had posted its reply. All the Obama supporters began jumping up and down, pounding on their keyboards and shrieking right on Pfeiffer’s command.
This one is actually taking a shot at Krauthammer’s tragic accident and the fact that he’s paraplegic:

Charles the krautface is back at it again. What a despicable dirtbag. If Obama cured Krauthammer, the krautface would find fault with it. Another FOX NEWS butt kisser.
No need for Messiah Obama to come in and lay hands, Gus, I think Krauthammer has risen far, far above his paraplegia, thank you. (What a vile and disgusting person you are to say that, Gus Ellis.)

Why does WaPo allow such a blatant and proven liar to spread his garbage here? Can’t they find a right winger who doesn’t tell outright lies?
Oh look, this next person knows it must be a lie, because the White House Website told him so!

CK: You are a liar.
Where is the Post Fact Checker? 4 Pinocchios.
WP and CK need to issue a retraction NOW.

To those people, facts only matter when the confirm their beliefs. If something conflicts with their beliefs, then to them it can’t be a fact. Unfortunately, their beliefs are formed from Fox News, Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, etc.
It just wouldn’t be a properly brain dead liberal comment without the obligatory Fox News reference, now would it?
I like this next one especially, “Hey, just call up the White House to check the facts!”

Mr. Krauthammer should visit the White House. The Churchill bust remains there. He also could call up the White House to check his facts, instead of passing on legend and falsehoods.
But I saved the best one for last, because if there was one overriding sentiment among the comments, it’s exemplified right here:

There is a movement starting to clamp down on Krauthammer’s lies. Please email the WaPo ombudsman:
Tell him you won’t put up with this man’s lies any more.
Yes, as a matter of fact, let’s get a movement to “clamp down” on all dissent! Lefties and the hatred of an honest debate, they just seem to go hand in hand, don’t they? Maybe y’all should get your own facts straight before you go swallowing ever lie the White House spoonfeeds you.
